ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Uncommon Knowledge and Achievement, Inc Teacher University ( “UKA Teacher U” or “Teacher U”), aims to develop and deliver high-impact training for New York City district and charter public school teachers. It grows out of the work of three of the country’s most effective charter school organizations – Uncommon Schools, KIPP, and Achievement First (UKA). In collaboration with Hunter College, Teacher U currently trains mostly novice elementary and middle school teachers over a two-year period, giving them the practical tools they need to excel in their classrooms. On periodic Saturdays during the school year and during a portion of the summer, dynamic professors from leading educational institutions and master teachers from some of the most successful K-12 classrooms in the country lead enrolled teachers to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to lead their students to demonstrably remarkable annual achievement gains. The enrolled teachers receive provisional certification at the start of the program, permanent certification when they finish, and a Master’s degree from Hunter College based on the successful completion of the Master’s level academic program and on a thesis defense that includes generating student growth and achievement.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Academic Technology Coordinator will play a critical role in developing a mature and robust technology environment, reporting directly to the Director of Technology and Knowledge Management. The Academic Technology Coordinator will be a highly visible role, interfacing with a wide variety of internal and external individuals, including Teacher U employees, our enrolled teachers, and colleagues at our partner organizations. Given the extent to which Teacher U will leverage technology as a strategic tool, the Academic Technology Coordinator will be critically important in ensuring a positive instructional experience for our enrolled teachers and maximizing the productivity of Teacher U employees.
The Academic Technology Coordinator will serve as Teacher U’s primary point of contact for technology support. This technology support has two prongs – an external focus on our enrolled teachers and partner organizations, and an internal focus on Teacher U employees.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Troubleshooting and resolving technical support requests in a Windows-XP-based office environment, a Macintosh-based video production environment, and a Unix-based web hosting environment
* Supporting a web-based course platform
o Assist instructors with the creation and delivery of courses (both in person and online) and course materials
o Assist Teacher U administrative staff with the configuration of course enrollments
o Support enrolled teachers as they obtain course materials and complete assignments
o Assist evaluators as they access, grade, and return enrolled teachers’ work
o Resolve ongoing questions and troubleshooting needs
* Configuring and supporting a student information system (SIS)
o Collaborate with the Director of Administration to configure the SIS to Teacher U’s functional needs
o Train Teacher U staff on effective use of the SIS
o Resolve ongoing questions and troubleshooting needs
* Providing on-site technology and audiovisual support for Teacher U class days at Hunter College, in conjunction with Hunter College’s audiovisual and central reservations departments and other Teacher U staff
* Selecting, configuring, and supporting a video database and tracking tool. This work will be completed in conjunction with the Director of Technology and Knowledge Management and the Director of Instructional Media
* Selecting, configuring, and supporting document repository and knowledge management tool(s). This work will be completed in conjunction with the Director of Technology and Knowledge Management
* Enabling appropriate data integration between Teacher U systems
* Ensuring the health of Teacher U’s technical environment (e.g. backups, preventive maintenance)
Time permitting, the Academic Technology Coordinator will collaborate with Teacher U colleagues to publish and manage content for Teacher U’s web site. Further, the Academic Technology Coordinator will work with the Director of Technology and Knowledge Management and the Director of Instructional Media to develop and configure a collaborative website that is rich in video media content.
As the organization and the Academic Technology Coordinator’s role mature, the Academic Technology Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Technology and Knowledge Management to streamline and document technology processes and tools. Consequently, it is expected that the Academic Technology Coordinator will diligently document his/her work to share his/her knowledge and train colleagues.
